7 Superb Mountain Restaurants in Zermatt

1. Chez Vrony: best for an alpine-chic setting with Matterhorn views

Chez Vrony with friends

At 2,130m in the charming Findeln hamlet, Chez Vrony is a Zermatt icon for its local cuisine, Matterhorn views and alpine-chic design. This buzzy spot is recognized by the Michelin Guide.

In the warmer months, Chez Vrony’s expansive terrace is an idyllic place to rest your feet during a hike. Order a crisp salad or one of their local beef specialties and pair it with a refreshing glass of Swiss white.

✔️ Top Tip: we recommend combining the 5 Lakes Trail hike with lunch at Chez Vrony.

In winter, the scene transforms into a cozy mountainside refuge. After your run down Slope 6, unclip your skis and warm up with their bubbly cheese fondue or a hearty rösti on the terrace. Blankets and heaters keep you snug, so you can take in the incredible Matterhorn vistas and enjoy the apres-ski atmosphere.

We always order their cheese fondue and pair it with a Heida (Swiss white wine).

How to get to Chez Vrony from Zermatt village:

🥾 By hiking: take the funicular to Sunnegga Station and follow signs for Findeln. It's about a 20 minute walk downhill.

⛷️ By skiing: Ski down Findeln Slope 6 from Sunnegga Station.

2. Findlerhof: best for a cozy setting with Matterhorn views

Findlerhof

If you’re skiing or hiking in Sunnegga and want to switch it up from Chez Vrony, Findlerhof is another fantastic option, just a 7-minute walk further downhill.

Recognized by Gault & Millau, Findlerhof offers a cozy, down-to-earth charm compared to Chez Vrony’s chic après-ski atmosphere. On a clear day, you’ll be treated to spectacular Matterhorn views.

3. Restaurant Zum See: best for gourmet cuisine

Zum See hamlet

Nestled between the mountains in the Zum See hamlet, this culinary gem located in a 350 year old chalet is known for its fresh, gourmet dishes and alpine charm. Although you won't have Matterhorn views from your table, the peaceful, local feel of the hamlet more than makes up for it.

Recognized in the Michelin Guide, it's one of the region's best. Their venison with spätzle and chanterelle sauce was incredible.

How to get to Zum See Restaurant from Zermatt village:

Take the gondola to Furi Station and hike about 10 minutes downhill to the hamlet. After lunch, we recommend continuing your leisurely hike downhill for about 25 minutes to reach Zermatt village.

4. Bergrestaurant Blatten: best for an apero

Restaurant Blatten

Just an 8-minute walk downhill from Restaurant Zum See, Bergrestaurant Blatten is a fun spot for an apero in Blatten hamlet. Watch the Furi gondola pass overhead as you sip on one of their flavoured spritzes and enjoy the sun on their spacious patio.

They offer traditional dishes year round and fresh salads from their garden in summer.

5. Edelweiss Zermatt: best for cliffside views

Edelweiss Zermatt

Perched on a cliff with a bird's-eye view of Zermatt village and the valley below, Edelweiss Restaurant is a hidden gem. It’s a nice spot off the beaten path for those looking to hike directly from the village. The highlight? Eating their homemade carrot cake.

🥾 Two hiking options to Zmutt:

  1. Take the gondola to Furi station and hike from there to Zmutt. After lunch, head down the mountain to Zermatt Village, passing Zum See and Blatten on the way. See the route.

Restaurant Chalet Ried

Ried offers a unique vantage point of Zermatt, with sweeping views south down the valley and the Matterhorn rising majestically in the distance. Located along a biking path, it’s a great spot to stop for lunch if you're riding mountain bikes or kick bikes.
